Listed equity after the 2024 rewrite

Finance Act 2024 (from 23 July 2024): listed equity STCG (s.111A) 20%; LTCG (s.112A) 12.5% without indexation, exemption band ₹1.25 lakh. Health and education cess 4% on that tax. Surcharge is a high-income extra this page skips. Property, gold, unlisted shares — different sport.

Worked example: LTCG ₹3 lakh

Taxable 3,00,000 − 1,25,000 = 1,75,000 × 12.5% = ₹21,875. Cess 4% → total ≈ ₹22,750.

Worked example: STCG ₹50,000

20% = ₹10,000 plus cess ₹400. No ₹1.25 lakh slice on STCG.

Questions

Are my numbers uploaded?

No. Arithmetic stays in this tab. Remember writes this browser only.

Can I share the inputs?

The URL hash (#) stores fields. Copy the address bar. Nothing is sent as a query string to a server of ours.

Is this a filing?

No. Print the worksheet. Argue with payroll or a CA. Do not paste this into an ITR as authority.

Grandfathering / 31 Jan 2018?

Not modelled. This is the post-July-2024 napkin for listed equity.

Property?

Different rates and optional indexation stories. Not this page — I will not ship a fake “capital gains” clone that lies about land.
